I get that 100% but there are so many issues with the CBA I doubt we ever see much getting fixed. Each side has its benefits and there are flaws in those benefits.

Just to add to the Blue Font spell check.I’ve been HORRIBLE at spelling part of my quotes (responses).Way to long as well.
—Yes the contracts are so complexed & hate looking at those $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ signs. It would take me a year just to count all those dollars.

Yes baseball has players wait 6 years. We see holdouts. The beauty of say AD99’s contract & Jared Goff’s (Matthew Stafford )contracts is if AD99 stayed a whole summer in Pittsburgh you know what he is doing & he’ll be up to speed quickly.

Say just a QB holding what that would mean to the offense. There’s a lot more team prep for the position a line.

Johna Jackson & Kyren were held out of oTA’s giving some players extra practice time.Alaric IMO will have a player pressuring him on both sides of the ball.

I'm not sure how you got that from my post. The question is if he is on the roster and plays in week 1 does his contract become guaranteed for that season. We've all seen teams sign vets after week 1 so their contract isn't guaranteed for that season.

.

No guaranteed money in his contract from what the sites that report contract info show.

Well they clearly value him since it would have required a team to give up a 2nd round pick for him and he’s been pretty much anointed the starting OLT spot. Its not like they paid him league minimum to be the 4th TE
Will he be the starting OLT next year? Who knows. Do the Rams value him? Yeah they clearly do but are rightly so hedging their bets

And as I've said many times in the Jackson discussions is how much did they really value him? It's a 1 year less than $5 million non guaranteed deal. There are 18 LT's making more money this year than him so he's in the bottom half of the league for teams valuing him at LT? As I've said many times they have nothing invested in him after this year. He's a stop gap as things stand right now. They could show us they value him and sign him to more than one year and then this whole discussion becomes a moot point. But right now they value him as a stop gap IMO.

They value him a whole lot considering he will be watching Stafford's blind side. The money is irrelevant, they are trusting him to keep Stafford upright, and protecting their 40+ mill QB is investing a ton.

If you insist. Seems to me if they valued him he'd be there doing it for a long time and for real money. Guess we gauge value differently. They valued Dotson and Jonah Jackson for sure.

To be fair, Dotson & JJ were true FAs. Not so with AJ.

Doesn't mean they had to sign them to a multi year deal nor that they couldn't sign Jackson to one.

In looking at what the 2025 draft has to offer at LT, two of the pre season likely top 5 picks are Campbell at LSU and Banks at Texas. To get either one would probably require a much worse than anticipated 2024 Rams record or a whole lot of draft capital.

That just makes it more important that AJ does enough to earn a real contract. You're never going to have all all-pros on the line. But being that LT is maybe the most important position on the line, let's all hope he shines.

I think the Rams are playing it right with AJ. Let's face it... if he gets injured this year, he won't be getting any offers from other teams, so the Rams can re-sign him for cheap. If he plays poorly, same. If he plays well, he will get some offers and the Rams may lose him but they will probably be able to pick up a decent LT in free agency or the draft. And if he plays great, well, I don't think that will happen. I like AJ as a player but I don't think his ceiling is that high.

As UFA, they had to be aggressive. Which btw, Jackson is not a UFA and is under contract, so its apples to oranges.
I dont know why this is so hard for you to understand, they value him plenty as he is responsible or protecting quite possibly their most important asset.
He's under contract, there is nothing stopping them from extending his deal as they have done with tons of players in the final year of their deal, or like in the case of Dotson, negotiating a new contract after the season. Also, fwiw, he did get a raise from 800k to nearly 5 mill, a 600% increase, seems like they value him for sure

Given the current expenditure along the OLine methinks Jackson is playing for his next big contract elsewhere.

I think we'll just drop this at least I will. I understand exactly what you said. You just put a higher value on the tender than I do. To me signing a guy to a 1 year deal is not a team putting a high value on a player. It's a simple as that. As I've said many times in this and other threads if they sign him to more than just year my opinion changes and I'll say they value him more. As it is a 1 year deal for peanuts, for a LT, in my book isn't a value.

I get what you're saying you just seem to refuse to see what I'm saying. You're my brother in the Ramily and nothing but love but you won't acknowledge what I'm saying on a 1 year contract so it's best to move on IMO.

And as an UFA he will get that opportunity and the Rams are giving him it by not signing him long term.

You dont understand how the RFA process works.
Its essentially the same thing as the "5th year option" for rookie 1st rounders. They can choose to exercise or decline to use the option.
There is no reason to sign him long term during FA when he is already under contract.
They tendered him at 2nd round level which at least gave him the opportunity to see what market value he had, a 1st round tender would have surely closed that door.
Because they had him locked up they were able to negotiate with FA OGs and not use valuable draft capital on OT. He's being paid a pretty penny for an UDFA in their 4th season. There is literally no reason to have signed him to any other type of contract, unless it was to match an offer sheet, exactly how the RA process is designed

I see it the exact opposite, Only 4 O-lineman under contract for 2025, Avila will be on 3rd year of rookie deal, Havenstein and Noteboom dead cap will clear out so they'll easily be able to pay top dollar for an OT with 2025 carrying the lowest cap hit. Now will Jackson be the one deserving of that top dollar contract? That's a different story, and fortunately like Dotson last year, AJ will be able to prove it one way or the other. Financially speaking though, they'd be in great shape for it

I don’t like it when @OldSchool and @dieterbrock disagree and argue.

I do enjoy it when posters disagree and argue with @Loyal.

In some conversations like that one you can come to a point where the other person isn't actually reading what you say. Or they just refuse to acknowledge what you're saying. We've reached that so I'm done.
